Symbiotics | A New Generation of Hydropower

Symbiotics LLC | A New Generation of Hydropower

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is responsible for the issuance of licenses for the construction and operation of hydroelectric projects in the United States.  Once a license is granted and for its full duration, FERC also provides oversight to ensure that all conditions of the license are upheld, such as environmental monitoring and dam safety.

FERC’s new Integrated Licensing Process is a fast, predictable and efficient licensing process, yet it ensures adequate resource protections.  The ILP process was founded on the following principles:

  • Integration of all stakeholders at the outset of the licensing process
  • Early issue identification and early resolution of necessary environmental studies
  • Strict enforcement of the time allotted to complete the licensing steps.
