Symbiotics | A New Generation of Hydropower

Lake Shelbyville Dam Project

The Lake Shelbyville Dam is located on the Kaskaskia River, two miles east of Shelbyville, Illinois. The dam impounds Lake Shelbyville, which is used for flood control, fish and wildlife conservation, recreation development and navigation releases. Construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1970 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The reservoir has a normal surface area of 11,100 acres, but this varies according to use.

On behalf of Shelbyville Hydro LLC, Symbiotics began state and federal licensing for a run-of-river hydroelectric project on Lake Shelbyville Dam in 2008. Using one Kaplan turbine/generator unit, the proposed project will have an installed capacity of 6.8 MW.
