Symbiotics | A New Generation of Hydropower

Symbiotics | A New Generation of Hydropower

The Swift Creek Hydroelectric Project is located on Swift Creek, near the town of Afton, in Lincoln County, Wyoming. The project was originally licensed on December 1, 1942 and operated until 1968 when an avalanche crushed its penstock. The upper and lower reservoirs still provide recreation opportunities to the citizens of Afton.

Symbiotics aided Lower Valley Energy and the City of Afton in restoring the Swift Creek Hydroelectric Project. Construction began in the spring of 2008 and the project was completed in the fall of 2009. The rehabilitated run-of-river hydroelectric project has an installed capacity of 1.5 MW and will produce an average of 7.58 GWh annually.
