Symbiotics LLC | A New Generation of Hydropower

The Wailua Falls Hydroelectric Project is located on the South Fork of the Wailua River on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. The project diverts water from the South Fork Wailua River above Wailua Falls to generate power at a plant located 1.5 miles downstream.  The hydropower project has an installed capacity of 6.6 MW from two turbine/generator units and on average will produce 11.1 gWh annually.

In 2007, Symbiotics began the federal and state permitting process for the Wailua Falls Hydroelectric Project by filing a Preliminary Application Document (PAD) with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and worked with the State of Hawaii to assemble a renewable energy committee for the project.
