Island Park Dam was constructed in 1939 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation (BOR).  The dam is located on the Henry’s Fork, a tributary of the Snake River in Idaho just east of Yellowstone National Park.

The stretch of water immediately below the dam has been designated a National Wild and Scenic River and is considered one of top fly-fishing destinations in the United States.

Symbiotics licensed, constructed and currently operates a 4.8 MW run-of-the river hydroelectric project on Island Park Dam for the Fall River Rural Electrical Cooperative.

The project includes a park for disabled anglers seeking access to the river below the dam. The Low-Impact Hydropower Institute certified the project the project in 2001, the first certification ever awarded to a hydroelectric project in the Intermountain West.
